When Bloggers cluster

I am one of lifes social dorks. I don't cope so well out of a professional setting frankly. I'm fine with family, fine with people who I have managed to breach the social wall with, (usually after several years) and AOK in a professional social setting where I can talk the talk. But invite me to a party or BBQ where I don't know many/any people and I struggle.
Tiki Skewer...ordered because
I secretly wanted to say Tiki
out loud.

The Digital Bloggers Conference was painful for me, and I muddled through it by desperately embracing the other volunteers.
So when my sister-in-law from over at Salz Dummy Spit invited me to come along to a bloggers lunch to meet Glow while she's out from WA I cringed. Informal setting much? No chance of hiding in the toilets in between speakers here. But I agreed because I really did want to meet a couple of the bloggers that would be along.
I should have done this a long time ago.
There is no such thing as strangers in the blogging world. Strange yes. But no strangers. The time flew, and before I knew it I had to drag Sal away so I could make my shift at my second job.

I don't read 100% of the blogs of the people who attended. And I'm pretty darn sure that very few of them have stumbled over mine before. But that wasn't the point. The table never quietened down as conversations flew, we laughed, we shared food, I jealously eyeballed everyone else enjoying the champagne Glow managed to secure for us at the oh so accomodating Bungalow 8 restaurant in Sydney (insert sponsor flog here), and as always when bloggers get out together the twitter and instagram streams were burning.
I'd do it again. And again. I will most definately be taking up Denyse Whelans suggestion of a Western Sydney meet up.

Mid-Year Check In - 12 for 2012 - Keeping it honest

Yeeeeah. I don't think I have ever had an annual goal list go as awry as this years. Surprise pregnancies will do that for you.

But when I stop to reflect, its not as off course as I thought. I have kind of had to set a few new goals though.

Get a blockout shutter for Lolly's bedroom window - Well, I have the money put aside. I just haven't had the time to book in the guy to do the job. But I need to, because I am desperate to get that kid out of my bedroom and into her own. So, a half tick since I have the cash at least.
Save $3,000 towards next major holiday - BAHAHAHA! Yeah. No. This ones not going to happen this year. Next major holiday is being just slightly reassessed too. The idea of a huge flight with 2 kids under 3 is not my idea of a holiday. We'll stay domestic or at least to closer countries for a few years.
Pay $5,000 extra off the home loan - Not really on track, but the plan is still there. Only now I have given myself until September to do it, because I want it out of the way before I go on Mat leave again.
Contribute $50 extra per fortnight to hubby's superannuation - Hasn't started. Laziness and lethargy. Will be nagging husband on this one again tonight since we are definitely not on track for the retirement of my dreams.
Reassess Superannuation providers for Husband - Have the application forms filled in for a new company....need to get those forms off in the mail though.
Replace carpet in all living area's with floorboards - Nope. Another one that is completely off my agenda for this year now.
Create SuperWardrobe - *Sniff* I had some big dreams. Not going to happen either. Maybe 2014. Maybe.
Makeover Maddy's bedroom - Poor kid. This one is more about the time poor than the cash poor. Putting this one off till a little later in the year when I am on Maternity leave. Might still happen. Lets pretend its on track for November.
Take 3 away from home holidays - Took girls to QLD for 10 days in January. Then QLD again in April because we figured we may as well use up those annual passes for the theme parks and keep holiday #2 cheap. Should definitely squeeze in a trip to Melbourne or maybe Canberra later this year. Just can't decide whether to make it before or after the baby.
Get health insurance finally - TICK TICK TICK! Signed, sealed, direct debits happening.
Get a new bedroom suite - Nope. My bedroom suite is looking pretty good right now when I have a list of baby things to buy that is a mile long.
Save $1000 towards Maddy's 2013 high school costs - On track. High school will happen whether I am pregnant or not so I've definitely kept this one on course.

Since I've had to can a few of these, I want to spell out my new and improved goal list. Because I didn't drop them because big financial goals are unachievable for me, I dropped them because I had to rethink my priorities this year.

Buy a cot, mattress, double pram, and boys linen - Bought the cot this weekend. Used, but still nice and it sort of matches Lolly's.
Pay all monthly bills ahead 6 months - On track. Most of the bills are now 2 months ahead, and I should be able to get them 6 months ahead before the babies born. I'm trying to minimise our costs while I'm on a reduced income for 12-16 months
Buy $1,000 in gift vouchers towards Christmas presents - We have some big gift idea's this year for Christmas. We want to get Maddy a laptop for starters to help her with high school study, so having the vouchers put aside will ease those costs. I've been buying at least 1 $50 voucher each fortnight, sometimes 2.(I get alot of brands 5% off thanks to a work perk).

So I still feel like our finances are looking okayish, but the next 2 years are definitely not our luxury purchase years.

Do you stop and reassess at the mid year? Take this chance to do a health check and see if you are on track. Sometimes goals need to be reset, but if you keep tabs on yourself you are more likely to achieve what you set out to.

You kinky googlers....

My blogging content couldn't be much more sanitary if I was trying, so I was surprised to see my top search query is 'why is it so hard?'.
